Three Themes In Neo Freudian Theory And Therapy Essay.
The hypothesis that personality characteristics directly influence physical health is a big part in health psychology and related fields (Smith, 2013).This information is often not dealt with completely when dealing with the insufficient attention to personality measurement. The ideal is that submission is a somewhat healthier stance than that of a dominate personality.
Freud theories went through considerable modification by the neo-Freudians such as Carl Jung, Otto Rank, and Alfred Adler. Now some psychotherapists base their work broadly on Freud’s work but mainly on neo-Freudians which is called the psychodynamic approach to psychotherapy.
The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher (1856 - 1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in Vienna, collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood experiences.
Freud believes things that are hidden in the unconscious can be revealed through free association, slips of tongue and dreams. Neo-Freudian theorists, include, Alfred Adler, Erik Erikson, Karen Horney and Carl Jung, who believes in the significance of the unconscious, but disagreed with other features of Freud’s theories (Mc Leod, 2007).
Sigmund Freud: Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality According to Sigmund Freud, the key to a healthy personality is a balance between the Id, the Ego and the Superego. The Id, the Ego and the Superego are three theoretical constructs, in terms of whose activity and interactions, the mental life can be described and complex human behaviours formed.
