According to the idea of transformational leadership, an effective leader is a person who does the following: Creates an inspiring vision of the future. Motivates and inspires people to engage with that vision. Manages delivery of the vision.
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP? A few years ago one of us was asked to write the preface to a book of readings on leadership. The editor asked that the preface integrate the chapters in the book into a cohesive whole. The vari-ous leadership authors had written articles on far ranging topics such as trust, authenticity, servant leaders, tough-minded leaders.
First, leadership is a social influence process. Leadership cannot exist without a leader and one or more followers. Second, leadership elicits voluntary action on the part of followers.
Simply stated, mentoring (or coaching) is a dynamic process of building supportive relationships to enhance professional growth and maximize individual potential (see Developing future nurse leaders ). Mentorship is a means of sharing your knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors with another nurse.

This is the Great Man Theory of leadership which asserts that leaders in general and great leaders in particular are born and not made. According to the theory, leadership calls for certain qualities like charm, persuasiveness, commanding personality, high degree of intuition, judgment, courage, intelligence, aggressiveness and action orientation which are of such a nature that they cannot be.
